Where do you even begin?
Defeating maybe the best WPT final table ever assembled to be crowned WPT World Champion?
Regardless of where you started, it all ended here today, as Asher Conniff rode the run of a lifetime towards two of the biggest tournaments wins of his career, culminating with a close to $1,000,000 score that would put Asher on the top of the poker world.
As mentioned, he’d outlast a stacked WPT World Championship field that boasted some of the best players in the world, including the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Anthony Zinno, Jason Mercier and many, many more.
He then outlasted an even more stacked, if that was even possible, final table that included the winningest player in World Poker Tour history Carlos Mortensen, former WPT champions and WSOP Bracelet winners en route to his second major title of the Spring Poker Open, piggy backing off his opening Event 1 victory.
But, that first victory was supposed to be his only one of the series, as Asher has had a family vacation to Europe planned for a few months and was planning on missing both the SPO Championship and this WPT World Championship event.
That was, until the ‘million dollar mis-click’ occurred, as Asher meant to register for a $1,000 NJCOP event on BorgataPoker.com two weeks ago and mistakenly registered into a $1,650 WPT online qualifier, which he won to earn his $15,000 seat to this event.
The plans around the family vacation then changed, as just playing in this event might be considered a once in a lifetime experience but if just participating is considered once in a lifetime, what do you consider winning?
Fate? Destiny? However you want to spin it, sometimes everything happens for a reason and the everlasting reason here throughout the Spring Poker Open was Asher Conniff’s arrival to the poker world, as he’s now in the rare air of being considered a WPT World Champion.
