The 2017 Borgata Spring Poker Open has come to a close and it was a terrific series all around. There were $3.2 million in guarantees and all were covered easily. Between Main and Secondary events, millions in prize money was won and there were 18 Borgata Open trophies awarded. Most of those went to first-timers, but there were some notable exceptions.
After a three-hour heads-up battle, Sam Taylor won the Championship event and more than $390,000. This was his second Borgata Open series title — he earned the first back in November of 2014. That event had a modest 150 entrants whereas this year’s Championship drew 670 entrants, creating a prize pool greater than $1.6 million. This score also pushed his lifetime earnings past $1 million.
Barry Leventhal won the Super Knock-Out Bounty NLH event, adding a 4th Open series title to his growing poker resume. Matthew Zimmerman and Wade Meacham each took home their second Borgata Open trophies during this series.
The Kick-Off event carried a $1 million guarantee on total buy-ins and with 2,969 entrants, came close to a prize pool of $1.5 million. In a stunning adjusted payout agreement, the final nine players carved up the remaining prize money and as the chip leader, Soukha Kachittavong took 1st place and $127,637. All nine players collected better than 6th place prize money in a chip-based deal.
Also of note during this series was World Series of Bracelet holder Jack Duong. The New Jersey resident claimed his first Borgata title, winning the $1,000 Six Max NLH event and just under $50,000.
